Easter Time In The Region Of Murcia

The Spring is here and Easter is coming, the weather is sensational and just walking the streets of the capital Murcia, enjoying the numerous bars offering all kinds of delicious tapas “al fresco” is a fantastic way to feel the ambient of the city. Take some beers while enjoying the food or better still sample the delicious red Jumilla with your favourite tapas and talk about everything you fancy or say nothing and feel the warmth of the Spring’s sun.
Typical tapas of the region are the “marineras” (sea food), the murcian salads, meat cakes,
“michirones” (beans?), “paparajotes” (lemon leafs covered in flower, egg milk and lemon scrapings then fried and dusted with cinnamon and sugar, but don’t eat the leaf). Taken them with a glass of wine of the region like Jumilla or of the great variety of grapes grown here like Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah, Sauvignon, Moscatel and Pedro Ximénez plus Malvasía and Monastrell.
The Easter prodcessions in the Murcia region are fantastic, colourful, entertaining and full of devotion. There is the “other Holy Easter” Lorca’s Easter which shows so many biblical passion marches declared of International Touristic Interest. The floral arrangements of the processions are something to watch and enjoy. Come to see them on the 8, 10,11 & 12 of April.
Holy Easter of Cartagena is also spectacular. In general, the processions are very colourful, well organized and varied. There are silent processions, nocturnal vocational intensive processions that invite the participation of the great devotion shown by all. Espectacular thrones so well illuminated, full of flowers around the revered biblical figures.
Again, here, the brotherhoods are hard at work to make the Holy Week a very long one extending to 10 days of amazing processions that are considered internationally as of great turistic interest. Four main brotherhoods are responsible for superb white -on the main- beautiful processions from the 7 to the 16 of April.
Some of these brotherhoods go back to 1691 like the “Cofradía del Socorro” or to 1747 like the Cofradía de California, which is known in Cartagena affectionally as “los californios” (the californian) and who come out in the streets with 5 different processions of great value.
And there are many others, good ones around the region, Aguilas, Alhama, Puerto de Mazarrón, Caravaca de la Cruz, Cieza, Yecla; all around us so the choice for days and evenings of great interest and devotion is really good. If the weather is its normal self, these occasions are very entertaining and full of beauty and devotion.
